Nada Nidhi literally translated as "Treasure of Sound" is a music school established by Srikanth Chary in 1989 to preserve and propagate the rich tradition of Carnatic music in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The school emphasizes the purity and clarity of Carnatic music with meticulous attention to all the nuances and intricacies that make this music unique and distinctive. The importance of fluency and continuity of music is imparted to the students. Music theory and performance are blended together to give the students a comprehensive view of the music. Students are encouraged to attend local concerts, critique them and expand their horizons.
Frequent student presentations are arranged to help the students gain performing experience. Annually Nada Nidhi celebrates Vijayadasami, a ceremony that offers salutations to Saraswathi, the Goddess of Music, and honors the Guru. Students of a wide range of age and experience participate in these activities. Nada Nidhi has also presented several arangetrams, or student solo debut performances which are very demanding and call for improvisation with creativity and maturity.
Nada Nidhi aims to reach out to a broad audience and share the beauty of this beautiful ancient music which offers a scintillating and unique blend of tradition and improvisation.
